LYON has secured a place in the Worlds 2026 quarterfinals after defeating LOS 2–1 in the final round of the Swiss Stage. The victory on October 31 sends LYON through with a 3–2 record and ends the Brazilian side’s run at 2–3.
After two missed chances to qualify, LYON made its last opportunity count. The three-game victory keeps its Worlds campaign alive and gives North America a representative in the Knockout Stage after Team Liquid’s elimination.
LYON converts its final chance
LYON began Swiss with wins over Team Secret Whales and Karmine Corp, reaching 2–0 and putting itself one series away from the last eight. Qualification then proved harder to finish.
A 2–1 defeat to Gen.G was followed by another three-game loss against Invictus Gaming. Those results left LYON at 2–2, with its entire tournament resting on the meeting with LOS.
This time, LYON came through the deciding series. The result turns a promising opening into a quarterfinal appearance rather than a Swiss-stage exit.
LOS’s recovery ends one win short
LOS reached the final round through a very different route. Defeats to T1 and G2 left the team at 0–2, before victories over Team Secret Whales and Team Liquid brought it back into contention.
Having eliminated North America’s first seed in a 2–1 series, LOS needed to beat the region’s other representative to complete the comeback. Instead, LYON took the final step, leaving LOS one series short of the quarterfinals.
The run continues in the last eight
LYON joins Dplus KIA, Gen.G, T1, Invictus Gaming, Top Esports and Karmine Corp in the Worlds 2026 quarterfinals. Its next opponent will be determined by the Knockout Stage draw.
The Swiss Stage is over for LYON. Next comes a best-of-five, with a semifinal place on the line.
