Vulcan is tied to Cloud9 through November 15, 2029, with his contract extended by two years from its previous 2027 expiry. The update comes days after a Worlds campaign that ended in the Play-In and prompted a brutally short assessment from the Canadian support: “We are pathetic.”

A long-term commitment after a short Worlds run

The extension surfaced on October 22 through the league-recognised Global Contract Database. The date of the signing has not been disclosed. It gives Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme a longer contractual runway with C9 as the organisation heads into the 2027 offseason.

That is a meaningful decision after the manner of Cloud9’s elimination. A longer contract gives both sides a basis to work together, although it does not guarantee that the whole starting five will remain intact or that any player will stay for the full term.

“We are pathetic”

Vulcan posted those words after C9’s defeat to FURIA. There was little attempt to soften the disappointment:

Cloud9 had already lost a five-game opener to Karmine Corp. Against FURIA, they won the first map before dropping three in a row, leaving the tournament without reaching the Swiss Stage.

The comment was a reaction to that performance. It was not an announcement about his future, and the subsequent contract update places the focus on what C9 can build next.

Vulcan stays central to C9’s next chapter

For Cloud9, keeping an experienced support under a long-term deal offers continuity in a period when other parts of the roster may change. Vulcan’s new expiry is 2029; it should not be read as confirmation of the club’s complete 2027 lineup.

Meanwhile, APA and Zven have been reported to be exploring departures. Both had already moved out of the starting lineup before the Summer Split, when Loki and Tactical took over. Those reported exits and Vulcan’s extension are separate developments.

The task now is to turn that continuity into a stronger international showing. The new contract extends the relationship; the Play-In defeats explain why the next season will carry a clear demand for improvement.
