Evil Geniuses will cease competitive and day-to-day operations on November 2, 2026, closing the latest chapter of an organisation whose League of Legends legacy includes the 2022 LCS Spring title.
The North American club announced the decision on October 20. Its statement points to constrained sponsorship and investment, alongside the rising cost of competing at the highest level, after an extended attempt to find a sustainable future.
A shutdown beyond League of Legends
EG said it had concluded that continuing the business responsibly was no longer possible in the current environment. The organisation plans an orderly wind-down with the players, coaches and staff affected.
The closure reaches beyond a single roster or game. For LoL followers, however, this is the end of the wider organisation rather than a fresh departure from the LCS: EG had already left the league ahead of the 2024 season.
The 2022 roster that brought EG an LCS trophy
EG’s defining modern LoL achievement came on April 24, 2022, when they swept 100 Thieves 3–0 in the Spring final. The title-winning lineup paired Impact and Inspired with jojopyun, Danny and Vulcan.
That team gave North America a memorable mix of established talent and young domestic players. The championship sent EG to MSI 2022, where they reached the semifinals; later that year, the organisation also appeared at Worlds.
The roster’s legacy remains visible in the players who have continued competing elsewhere. Jojopyun’s more recent career, for example, has taken him to Europe: read about his Movistar KOI extension through 2027.
A familiar name leaves the scene
For a brand with more than 25 years in esports, the November closure is a significant ending. EG’s explanation centres on the economics of sustaining the organisation, rather than the result of one League of Legends season.
The confirmed operational deadline is November 2. The announcement does not set out a future LoL return or a replacement project under the EG name.
