Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu could be heading back to the LCK. The 2022 world champion is reportedly expected to join Nongshim RedForce for the 2027 season, setting up a return to professional League of Legends after his military service.

The move remains a reported transfer rather than an officially confirmed signing. His return would nevertheless give fans a new chapter in a career that already includes one of the most memorable championship runs in the game's history.

A comeback after two seasons away

Deft last competed for KT Rolster in 2024 before beginning military service in May 2025. His discharge is expected in November 2026, making the following season the target for a competitive comeback.

There had already been signs that he intended to return. Earlier in 2026, former teammate Smeb said Deft had not retired and was continuing to practice, including renting a practice room while completing his service.

That preparation matters, but it cannot settle the biggest question: how quickly can he readjust to professional matches after such a lengthy absence? Solo queue practice and previous achievements provide context, while his level against current LCK opposition will have to be demonstrated on stage.

Another change in Nongshim's bot lane?

Nongshim already changed AD carries during 2026, bringing in Nam “Diable” Dae-geun from BNK FEARX in a swap that sent Kim “Taeyoon” Tae-yoon in the opposite direction. A move for Deft would represent another reset in the position.

The veteran would offer a very different profile: years of experience under pressure and a career spanning both Korea and China. For Nongshim, the appeal would be pairing that experience with the ambition of a player seeking another opportunity at the highest level.

The champion behind an unforgettable Worlds run

Deft's defining achievement came with DRX at Worlds 2022. The team defeated T1 3–2 in the final, completing an unlikely title run and delivering his first world championship.

A return in 2027 would begin a different challenge. Deft would need to rebuild competitive rhythm and adapt to a league that has continued evolving during his absence. His history makes the comeback compelling; his performances would determine what comes next.

For now, Nongshim is his reported destination. An official announcement is still needed before the transfer can be presented as confirmed.
