Barça eSports will not compete in the Liga Española de League of Legends in 2027, marking a significant change for one of the Spanish scene’s most recognisable organisations.
The decision was reported on October 19 following confirmation from Jogu, the club’s Head of Esports and Gaming. It comes after Barça missed out on a place in VALORANT’s VCT EMEA partnership programme for the next cycle.
An exit from LES, with the door to LoL still open
The immediate consequence concerns Barça’s place in Spain’s league next season. Jogu indicated that leaving LES should not be interpreted as a permanent farewell to League of Legends.
That distinction leaves the longer-term picture unresolved. There is no confirmed return date or replacement LoL competition in the information currently available. It would therefore be premature to describe this as the permanent closure of the club’s League of Legends operation.
For now, the concrete change is clear: the Barça name will be absent from the LES field in 2027. The organisation’s wider esports activity continues.
A 2026 campaign that reached the European stage
Barça began the year by reaching the LES Kick-off final, where Movistar KOI Fénix won 3–0. Their domestic campaign later earned them a place in the season-ending Final Four, but a 0–3 defeat to UCAM ended that run.
There was also a European campaign to follow. Barça advanced through the EMEA Masters Summer Last Chance Qualifier and survived a demanding main-stage run before meeting Solary in the knockout match. The French side won that encounter, bringing Barça’s competitive season to an end.
The club’s season review thanked Selenex, Koldo, Macaquiño, Legolas and Oscure, alongside the coaching staff. Those results now form the final chapter before the announced break from LES.
What to follow next
The next meaningful developments will be clarification of Barça’s future LoL plans and the makeup of Spain’s 2027 league. Neither an eventual return nor a successor to the club’s place should be assumed before an announcement.
